hardest subject in school?

Mine is and always will be math. I never failed at it-b in algebra, C's in geometry and algebra 2 but I can never get the consepts. Most of the stuff in math are totally useless...what are we going to do with all those thirems anyways. Thankfully, I've got my 3 required credits, :). Oh no! I used numbers in this post!

People ask me for help in math because they think I'm smart...not in math. I believe I'm just going to give them my notes and tell them to figure it out because i hate that subject with a passion.

Mine is math also. I don't remember ever getting A's in those specific classes and the next time I enroll in it will be my 4th time in the same class (not with the same teacher though). When I listen to the lectures I try to undersrtand it and sometimes think I do. But then, during independent homework, but especially during tests, when it comes to doing the work on my own I usually can't remember how to do most of it, even though I had been taught problems similar to the ones I have to do. I don't know, part of it might be that I'm not sure whether I will do it right, but another part is that I really do not get it if the problem is not very similar to the ones I was taught, like if the number-letter patterns were switched around or something. So I really do need lots of practice and sometimes different examples and explanations of the same types of problems in braille as well as verbally to learn it. I think I did OK in my school math classes because of that, but in college as I mentioned, it's a lot harder as you don't automatically get math book/worksheets in braille. But thankfully, my DSS office will hopefully be borrowing a College Algebra textbook (that is current but unused from another college at the moment) that will be similar to the one we will be using and we're going to seee if the instructor will let me work from that one. If not, they are ready to ask a company to go ahead with transcribing the real tezxtbook we will be using.

Another tool that helps and I think would be good for people doing math and/or who need hands-on ways of "seeing"/doing is called Math Window. It's a framed magnetic board that is a little wider than a sheet of paper, and it comes with Brailled magnetic tiles with all the math symbols including letters, lines, numberline pieces, the 3 forms of greater than/less than/equal to sybbols, and even those Greek letters you use in the more advanced math and in algebra, as well as the common numbers and math symbols of course. Each tile also has the printed equivalent on it, so it is especially good during tests and/or if you have even a sighted person tutoring you. I just highly recommend that one, as I know it was and is a big help to me. *smile* The website is www.mathwindow.com.

mine is, without doubt, physics. It's really difficult to deal with refraction, reflection and diffraction lines, for example, soundwaves or logic gate diagrams in electricity. Math is in second.

Mine has been Math too! It always will be! Thanks for the info about the web site! I just gave it a visit! It was really cool!

I think a lot of people, both blind and sighted, are just too busy being scared of math to actually try and sit down and understand this. I don't say this as a mr know-it-all, I say it because I noticed myself having the same tendencies although, luckily, I managed to overcome them with help from some of my high school teachers and made a couple of As and quite a few Bs and B+s in math and I've taken quite a few classes. Saying math is useless is a really stupid thing to say. Computers, cars, aeroplanes, electronics, without math none of these things would exist or function the way they do. Math is used in the design, development, manufacturing and testing of those models. If it wasn't for math and physics we wouldn't have simulators to train our pilots, test our planes, test the impact of crashes on our cars to make them safer, test air bags etc. Math is hard, it is one of the hardest subjects, but it's also one of the most rewarding subjects. If you can work with such purely theoretical rules and subjects and such, you can do anything. Math is pretty in a sense, you can derive and answer and prove it. Math is definitely not right for everyone and that's good, we need poets and authors and language specialists and teachers and tour guides and numerous other jobs, so if math isn't right for you, there's nothing wrong with that. But I think everyone should give math a chance and not be so afraid of it or decide it's a horrible and useless subject, just because it's a bit hard, give it your best and may be you'll be pleasently surprised.
We're getting better and better imaging software and printers for blind students. I need to go back and consult my notes from the VMWB work shop I attended to post useful links and printers and material but I will endevor to do so later today or early next week. There's a lot of great stuff out there that people should be aware of and check out.
Cheers and keep on calculating, don't just divide, add up and multiply.

My hardest subject was Math. I never liked and I never understood it really except in Primery school.

Post 8 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Friday, 01-Sep-2006 15:56:17

math, math, algebra, math, geometry, math, math, algebra II, and math

and its the subject that made my ACT score go down. I really don't do good with word problems

Wow, wb, if I weren't so horrible at it, you may have just inspired me to like math. I respect it certainly, but I can't like it... It fogs my brains, befuddles the senses, and opens the door to mygrane. Not to mention, it's tricksome, it makes itself comprehencible when help is readily available, but it tricks me and leads me into pitfalls when I'm on my own. As much as I find it distasteful, I assure you, it doesn't like me either.

Lol Cala. I agree totally.

Science courses of any kind were the worst for me. I took the bare minimum I needed to graduate.

Post 13 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Sunday, 03-Sep-2006 4:06:33

Without a doubt foreign languages ate my lunch. Hated them, couldn't do them, and couldn't even express my hatred for them.

Got to go with Wildebrew on the math thing. I used to think I hated math. However, in college I took a symbolic logic course to try to "prove the existence of God" to myself. Before I knew it, I was proving things like the infiniteness of infinity, and things like that. After that, I realized I didn't know whether or not God existed (logic was not the right discipline for that sort of thing), but symbolic logic and math go hand in hand together, and I've been in love with both of them ever since. BTW, math and logic are a good thing for a computer programmer to know, and that's how I made a living for quite a few years.

i think the hardest subject i ever had is stupid geometry. why do i need that anyway. especially the diagrams.
even though i never got to algebra 2. now i am taking principles of economics.

Any kind of proofs are a pain for me, so some math as well as discrete logic. I'm just used to writing a program and seeing if it runs.

hmm, well i love alegbra, it makes total sense to me,, but with a passion i hate geometry, and i also hate science, all science, but most of all physics... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Have to agree wiht a lot of people here, Math was my least favourite. Always hated geometry.

math, biology, and foreign language (that last one in middle school)

Post 19 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Saturday, 02-Jun-2007 11:15:40

math without a doubt. I can't grasp the concepts, no matter how hard I try. science of any kind for the same reason, and also cause I don't have much background in it.

I am like genie. Good in school, but not in math! They always ask me for help, but nope, you aint getting any help from me, unless you plan on flunking!

well i must say, that math is one of them. i hate it! i'm, 15 in the 8 grade and doing 6 grade math. WTF! its all my districst falt. but anyways, math i dislike very much. my teacher does let me use my calculater, all so what i've found that is helpfull is an abicus.. that is nice because you can use it on tests and things like that.. last year my place wair i had trubble thogh was in english. i had like an F F minness, but at the very end of the last cimester i werked my ass off and pulled it up to like a D plus. all and all i like school, but i hate homewerk! lol.

For me? College biology is the most hardest class that i ever took. I still passed the class with a C, but it needs a lot of work to be done and there's lab work too. It's so challenging, but it was really informative. I did have some problems in math before, but after i re took the class i got an A and yeah, now i'm an expert in algebra. It's not that hard. Oh, another boring class is History the readings are too dry. I almost hated that class, but i still got a B

Math! eeeeeew! geometry is worse than algebra, well... kinda. I hate proofs! Why do I need stupid geometry? I also dislike chemistry and physics. they both deal with math ind my teacher was horrible in those subjects! grg! I love english though! I'm good at it yeah! booooo math! taking algebra 2 this year and I'll be a junior in high school. a lot of my friends r in the advanced classess like trig, but not me. I've never understood it that well except in elementry lol.

It's math and science for me. I have good grades though. I have a b in science and an a in math.
